The Castle Road – A Romantic Trail of Castles Motorhome Holiday

Ever fancied travelling the Castle Road, one of Germany’s most scenic drives by motorhome? This themed route is lined with 70 castles and palaces, enough to make you feel like a King (or Queen).

The Castle Road, called Burgenstraße in German, is over 745 miles long. It starts in Mannheim and leads you all the way to Prague in the Czech Republic.

The Romantic Road Trip Motorhome Holiday runs from the River Main to the Alps and is Germany’s best known and most popular holiday route. It is lined with medieval towns and fairy tale castles and gives you the feeling that you’ve been transported back in time. On the way from north to south, the landscape changes from river valleys, fertile agricultural land, forests and meadows to dramatic mountain scenery.

There is never a bad time to take the castle road. During the summer (late May to September) and around Christmas are high season. But throughout the year the castles put on different events from period costume performances to music festivals to ghost tours.
