York and North York Moors Motorhome Holiday
Visit York and the North York Moors in this scenic tour. The city of York is a beautiful, historic city with many places to visit and things to see. Admire the breathtaking York Minster, a 13th century Gothic building with stained glass windows and two functioning bell towers. York is a walled city, it is well worth walking the city walls, this is a nice walk and will allow you to see much of York from a vantage point.
Whilst in York you must visit the Shambles, these are little lanes with individual shops, in timber framed buildings, beautiful and very old. You can spend a few hours here enjoying the atmosphere and browsing the shops. Also well worth a visit are the Jorvik Centre, where you will enjoy seeing, hearing and smelling how the Vikings lived! And if you want a scare, the York Dungeons where you will be transported back to a time of hideous punishment. Continuing with the scare your self silly theme there are many ghost walks in York, it is well worth doing one of these, (after dark adds to the atmosphere).
Whitby is an old seaside resort, it has some beautiful shops to look around, and has a real unspoilt feel about it. It is also worth walking up the many steps to the Abbey up on the hill. It is quite a climb but well worth it. You may know that Whitby is where Dracula began. A visit to Whitby in 1890 provided Bram Stoker with an atmospheric location for his Gothic novel, and a name for his famous vampire. There is a Dracula experience that you can do in Whitby to find out more.
Also during this tour you will visit Scarborough, here you will find two sandy beaches split by the headland bearing the 12th century Scarborough Castle. Pickering is also visited, an ancient market town on the edge of the North York Moors.
If you enjoy walking or mountain biking you will enjoy a trip to Dalby Forest, located on the southern slopes of the North York Moors, there’s plenty here for adrenaline junkies.
