Tour of Bavaria and the Austrian Alps

You will begin your tour in Munich. If time permits, here you can visit the likes of Marienplatz, situated in the heart of the city. Arrive by twelve-noon to witness the magnificent clock on the building chime. Watch a re-enactment of historical Bavarian events performed by 32 life-sized figures. It also stands as a central point for the many churches and landmarks that Munich is home to.

Discover Bavaria and the Austrian Alps by Motorhome

You will then travel South-East to Lake Chiem, the largest lake in Bavaria. Take a boat trip across it and visit Herrenchiemsee Palace or enjoy the view from around the lake. The next stop on this tour will be Salzburg, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is Mozart’s birthplace. The ‘Old Town’ is one of the best-preserved cities north of the Alps and famous for its architecture. You will visit the Red Bull Hangar-7 at Salzburg airport. You will see the Flying Bulls and a collection of Formula One cars. This is perfect for those who love their motors!
From here, you will then go on to the Austrian Alps. Your journey to the Alps will take you to Tyrol, a western Austrian state in the Alps. Your first stop here will be in Lienz and you will have the chance to visit Achensee, Tyrol’s largest lake. Enjoy a relaxing stroll or a guided tour through National Park Hohe Tauern. Take a drive up the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. This will take you to the highest mountain pass in the Austrian Alps. Visit Kimmler Wasserfälle, the world’s fifth highest waterfalls at 380m high. From here you can embrace the beautiful views. Finally, Zillertal Dam will have something for everyone. It has historical features, including mines and museums. It also has thrilling activities including skiing, paragliding and many more.
Before heading back make sure you visit Neuschwanstein castle near Füssen in Germany. This is one of the world’s most romantic and famous of castles. You can also visit Lake Starnberg in Bavaria, Germany’s fifth largest freshwater lake.

Your tour will begin in Munich, Germany, before heading through Bavaria to see Lake Chiem. You will head to Austria and stop in Salzburg. You will then continue onto Lienz in Tyrol where you will approach the Austrian Alps. You will spend a few days exploring the Alps before heading back home via Munich. You may want to head back to Bavaria to see the Neuschwanstein castle and Lake Starnberg.
